Project Activities
The Climate-Resilient Bratislava project includes the implementation of several activities:
1. Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan
Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan for the city of Bratislava for 2030 (SECAP)
It aims to propose adaptation and mitigation measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030.
Several departments of the City Hall, project partners (MIB, Faculty of Natural Sciences of Comenius University, the Norwegian city of Bergen and the Icelandic city of Reykjavik), professional and general public are actively involved in its creation.
2. Comprehensive renovation of buildings and public space – energy efficiency measures
The Climate-Resilient Bratislava project includes the reconstruction of four buildings owned by the city: a city dormitory and three elementary art schools. The reconstructions will include insulation of the building envelope, replacement of the opening structures as well as replacement of the technological equipment of the buildings and other measures contributing to the reduction of the energy consumption of the buildings.
By reducing energy consumption in these four buildings, we will contribute to a significant reduction in emissions, resulting in improved air and environmental quality. An important effect of the insulation is also a new look, a new appearance and an increase in the quality of the indoor environment for the users. Currently, reconstruction of the first building, the J. Albrecht Primary Art School in Petržalka located on Topoľčianská Street, is in hand.

3. Comprehensive renovation of buildings and public space – green and blue measures
As part of the Climate-Resilient Bratislava project package, adaptation measures are also being implemented to eliminate the negative impacts of climate change and improve the quality of the residential and natural environments. The pilot implementations will include the planting of an avenue on Pionierská Street and revitalisation of the surroundings of the Fortuna Dormitory.
4. Measures to increase the city’s infiltration capacity
Increasing the city’s infiltration capacity is one of the measures to adapt to climate change and improve the quality of life in the city. In line with this activity, the city will construct wetlands and adopt water retention measures in Horský park.
5. Publicity and communication activities
An equally important activity of the project is informing and engaging the public on climate change issues. The professional and general public can find the necessary information on this website and on the city’s website. They also have the opportunity to become actively involved in a participatory process. An inaugural conference was organised and three workshops were held. Discussion forums and surveys are also in preparation.
