About the Project

The “Climate-Resilient Bratislava – Pilot Projects on Decarbonisation, Energy Efficiency of Buildings and Sustainable Rainwater Management in the Urban Environment” project is performed within the framework of the “Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation” (SK-Climate) program co-financed by the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism 2014-2021 in the amount of €1,170,600 and the State Budget of the Slovak Republic in the amount of €206,546.

Project Goals:

  • Developing a 2030 Action Plan for climate change mitigation and adaptation
  • Reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 1 785 t CO2 eq.
  • Comprehensive renovation of 4 public buildings in terms of energy efficiency
  • Two complementary environmental sub-projects to investment projects
  • Implementation of a pilot project to tackle problematic flooding
  • Implementation of 29 qualified mitigation and adaptation measures (grey/energy efficiency – 12, blue and green – 12, soft – 5)
  • Partnership development
  • Organizing activities bringing together different target groups
  • Mandatory and voluntary publication of the donor and the EEA Financial Mechanism
  • Raising awareness of climate change among the local population, local authorities, and their staff

Arch

  • The Arch project aims to increase the resilience of the historic areas of the city – to protect the cultural and historical heritage of the city against threats of climate change, such as torrential rains, droughts, and rising average temperatures. The project is digitizing and developing tools to help the city plan as effectively as possible to counter these threats.

IURC

  • This project aims to share experiences and skills, and to implement a pilot project in terms of sustainable development and preparation for climate change between the EU and Asia. Bratislava has been assigned the Japanese partner city of Tokorozawa. In 2018-2020, the two cities cooperated on the development of green-blue infrastructure and nature-friendly solutions. In the second phase from 2021 to 2023, Bratislava’s and Tokorozawa’s common goal is “Zero Carbon City” – reducing emissions and using alternative energy sources.

Our partners

The project has received support from Norwegian funds and we will cooperate with the Icelandic capital Reykjavik and the Norwegian city of Bergen. However, in a broader context, we consider all cities that are part of the Covenant of Mayors, or any cities that can be an inspiration in the field of carbon footprint reduction, sustainable energy or the creation of green and blue infrastructure, as partners.
